Gula Apong (Palm Sugar) is derived from the Nipah Palm (Nypa Fruticans) commonly found in the coastlines and mangroves of Sarawak.
On top of containing traces minerals such as potassium, phosphorus, zinc and iron, palm sugar also has a lower Glycemic Index (GI) index, making it healthier alternative to refined white sugar.
Due to the palm growing along the coastal areas the salinity of the waters lend a subtle salted caramel flavour to the sugar.
